In recent years, Balen shah has become one of the most talked -about people in Nepal . Many people first knew him as a rapper who sing song about social issues and the problems faced by ordinary citizens due to careless of government. He is also a structural engineer interested in doing many projects and also have work in time of earthquake in different part of country. But currently he is youngest Prime minister of Nepal and considered one of most important political personalities of Nepal. In 2022, he was independent candidate for mayor of Kathmandu and after serving three years he join a Rastra Swatantra Party. So he is rise from music and professional work to public leadership has made him one of the most discussed personalities in the country.
Balendra Shah ,popularly known as Balen shah ,was born on 27th April 1990 in Kathmandu to a maithil family. His father name was Ram naryan shah and mother Dhurva devi shah he was a youngest children of his parents. Shah’s family priotrized education and discipline, while his father encouraged his interest in creative activities like music. Just like most nepali children, he had a very academic upbringing but was growing hobbies that were not entirely academic too. According to people who knew him during his school days ,Balen shah was curious individual who always took notice of changes going around Kathmandu.

Education
Following his education balen shah, he attended the Jaljala Secondary School and Alliance Academy, where he completed his primary and secondary education, respectively. He later attended VS Niketan Higher Secondary School and completed his intermediate science studies. After that he got admission in the Himalayan White House International College and took up the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in civil engineering. In 2018, he moved to Bengaluru, India, and continued his education in the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NITTE).
This institution is affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University, where he attained the Master of Technology (M.Tech) in structural engineering in 2018. On coming back to Nepal, he worked as a structural engineer and took part in many infrastructural developments in the Kathmandu valley. He then joined as a PhD research fellow in the Kathmandu University where the theme of his research work was the preservation of Newari architecture and sustainable tourism.His academic endeavors are currently on hold because he chose politics as a profession.
Rap Carrer
Before joining the political career, he was already popular rapper and music artists and entered Nepal’s underground Nephop scene in the early 2010s. His first single song recorded in 2012 Sadak balak which lyrics was written when in school. His songs mainly talked about issues including corruption, unemployment, inequalities, and frustrations that average Nepalese people went through. It was not about just entertaining but rather expressing opinions and talking about different issues through the medium of music. Through various rap battles and performances as well as songs that he released, Balen reached out to many young audiences. Being straightforward and discussing various sensitive issues, he managed to differentiate himself from other musicians, becoming one of the famous personalities of the country’s hip-hop scene. Personal Life
Shah got married to Sabina Kafle who is a public health specialist in 2018. They have one daughter and reside in the locality of Gairigaun in Tinkune, Kathmandu. Shah can without a doubt be described as a public personality, although he does try to evade the limelight in matters personal.
Political Career
The first significant step in Balen’s political career was his declaration of candidacy in the 2022 mayoral race for the position of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Being an independent candidate, he stepped into a highly competitive political climate in which established parties were active players, and he won the mayoral election with a good margin and strong public support. After that, he served 3.5 years as Mayor of Kathmandu.
He gained prominence as a politician in the 2025 GenZ protests, and in January 2026, he quit his position as Mayor of Kathmandu and joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to run for the prime ministership in the 2026 general election. Shah won against the incumbent Prime Minister, K. P. Sharma Oli, in Jhapa 5 with a good margin of votes. After that, he became the 43rd Prime Minister and the youngest at the age of 36. His party is also currently the number one party in Nepal and has its own cabinet, working freely.
